Heide Modern has unveiled 'Sense of Direction', a vivid and immersive collaboration between artist Brendan Huntley and fashion label Alpha60. The exhibition transforms the historic modernist home with an installation spanning paintings, sculptures, monotypes, rugs and clocks, all probing the fleeting nature of personal transformation.
A 32-metre carpet runner which was custom-designed to wind through both floors of Heide Modern anchors the show. Its bright motifs of faces, celestial forms and watchful eyes echo through a series of accompanying clocks and new sculptural works. The exhibition marks a significant moment in Huntley’s practice, which has long balanced raw emotional expression with playful symbolism. Known for works that navigate identity, intuition and inner shifts, his presentation at Heide Modern expands these concerns into an architectural scale, engaging directly with the building’s legacy of experimentation. Developed over a long creative partnership, the project expands a single rug concept into a full-scale intervention that heightens the building’s blend of domestic intimacy and museum context.
The exhibition is open at Heide Modern 11 March - 10 April 2023.
